Princess Adebukola Osho Synergies With N.O.A And E.H.S To Sensitize Marketers Against Cholera Affection

Princess Adebukola Osho, The Iya Oloja General of Ikorodu Local Government has synergised with the Chief Orientation Mobilization Officer of Ikorodu Local Government, National Orientation Agency, Lagos State, Mrs. Adejoke Ologunagba, and Head of department, Environmental Health Services Ikorodu LGA, San. Agananoh Matthew Nugboyon yesterday, Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 at the Secretariat hall to help sensitize the marketers for precautionary measure against cholera disease.
Been the Sixth marketers’ meeting at the Ikorodu LG Secretariat hall, this makes the third (3rd) programmes of it kind Princess Adebukola Osho has facilitated.
She has facilitated fire fighter educational programme, and other before engaging with the aforesaid government organizations to orientate market stakeholders on how to effectively enhance the market women and men to inform other market members in their various domain on how to prevent their food products for sales in-order to cub the spreads of contaminated food consumption by the masses through the effective practice of constance self Hygiene and daily proper sanitation of their individual environments.
Speaking, Princess Adebukola Osho; because most of the marketers are not aware of the cholera outbreak, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Environment Health Services (EHS) are invited to educate the marketers about the needs to cultivate the habit of safeguarding measures against the cholera outbreak in Ikorodu.
She urged that constant self hygiene and sanitation is now a call assignments to every marketers and traders selling food items and rendering food services in every markets across Ikorodu central.
She thereby appeal to the government for assistance to help taking off the canal drainage blockages, despite the marketers are used to environmental sanitation on every Thursdays in a week. “This will also help allow the stagnant drainage water to flow in the community drainages”, and also advised the marketers to corporate with the Government in ensuring safety health across the State by taking precautionary measures within their children, houses, market places, and individual regular self hygiene.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina duly represented by Supervisor for Revenue and Budget, Prince Lateef Oyefusi inform the marketers on reason to comply with the rules and regulations of Ikorodu Local Government by obtaining their individual market tickets from the market officers. Failure to comply will not be considered.
“Notification of market registration has also been said to take place any moment from now for certification recognition purposes”.
In an interview With the Chief Orientation Mobilization Officer of Ikorodu Local Government, Mrs. Adejoke , she address the cholera outbreak as a muster that every citizens have to tame.
Says, It's a water -borne and food -borne disease. But if it is not tamed quickly, “It spread easily and a fast killer that kills people easily through water and food contamination. That is why the government is putting in place some precautionary motive in place so that the masses will note contact such dangerous diseases.
Said, every citizens of Lagos State to take care of what they eat, take care of the water they drink, wash properly disposer of waste, and maintain personal hygiene; by so doing, “We will all cub the spread of cholera diseases in Lagos State”.
“Cholera is a muster disease that is moving about, If you don't tame it, it can wipe a generation”, She said.
She further extend her message to the marketer in Ikorodu central, that they should ensure they keep their environment clean. They dispose their refuse properly, maintain personal hygiene. “It's not only on Thursday environmental sanitation is compulsory, market should be clean at the beginning of market, and also make sure they clean there environs after the closure of the markets, every day. Just like the habits that we cultivated during COVID -19; “Ensuring we wash our hands regularly with soap”.
Generally, to prevent cholera, citizens are urged to ensure safe drinking water by boiling, chlorinating, or using bottled water, and avoiding ice products made from untreated water. Maintaining proper sanitation by using toilets, safely disposing of faeces, and avoiding open defecation is crucial.
Suggested that the government should sanction people that are selling food without being conscious about safety precautions in the market. And also create more awareness for people through roadshow, door-to-door sensitization, more jingle, street to street, jingles on radios, on Television, on the internet, creating more awareness for people to know that this deadly disease thing is real.
In an interview with H.O.D environmental health services, Ikorodu LGA. San. Agananoh Matthew Nugboyon, said there are cases of cholera disease in the hospital due to lack of constant practices of self hygiene. “People don't engage in the weekly or multi -sanitary again”, some of the marketers are careless about taking normal precautionary measure before dealing what they are selling to the masses. “People are exposed to foods, and those foods are exposed to flies or dust”.
Says, if the marketers and people can increase their level of both personal and environmental hygiene, then we will break the chain of cholera within the environment.
He thereby urged the marketers to informed and sanitize their members on how to maintain health safety precautions against the outbreak cholera disease.
“We will continue on a regular basis now, it is a continuous exercise that sanitation is the key”, because “Once your family is clean, they will be free from diseases; Once your family is clean, you will live healthier, and longer; Once your family is clean, it will save costs”. “Personal hygiene and environmental sanitation is very important, said; H.O.D Environmental Health Services.
He added, speaking about the role of government on what to be done when cases are reported. Says, the government should take more proactive actions to ensure the chain of spread of this deadly disease, and those that are affected should be transferred to the clinic for treatment so that such person can be take care off immediately.
