Ikorodu Communities Celebrate Power Restoration as Dr. Agbaje Facilitates New Transformers — Governor Sanwo-Olu Responds

By LaRoyal:

In a proactive effort to enhance community engagement in democratic processes through inclusive governance, Honourable Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Rural Development, facilitated the installation of two additional electricity transformers for the residents of Ita-Elewa and Aga Tuntun 2 on Sunday, August 15, 2026. These installations are designed to improve the overall quality of life and promote a safer environment, as adequate lighting can serve to deter criminal activities while fostering commercial and industrial development.

The first transformer, with a load capacity of 300 kVA, was strategically positioned at the Ita-Elewa junction to provide electrical service to Ireshe Road, portions of Aga, Otambala Street, and the surrounding neighbourhoods. The second transformer, possessing a capacity of 500 kVA, was installed in Aga Tuntun 2 to deliver power to Taliatu Lawal Street, Jokogbola Street, Femi Shobowale Street, and Adeigbe Carena Street.

During a visit to Otambala Street, the publisher of LaRoyal Global Community News conducted an interview with Chief Obafemi Awolesi, who articulated the concerns of the Community Development Association (CDA) Chairman, Alhaji Kuti. Chief Awolesi indicated that the community had endured a power outage lasting one year and four months due to a malfunction of a 500 kVA transformer that failed as a result of overloading. Before Honourable Dr Agbaje's intervention, residents had contacted the Ikorodu Local Government Area office, overseen by Hon. Prince Abdullateef Adedayo Abayomi Ladega, as well as the constituency office of Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.

In addition to the transformer installations, Honourable Dr. Agbaje also facilitated the provision of a borehole water system on Otambala Street, which is pending commissioning. Chief Awolesi noted that the remaining tasks include the installation of solar energy solutions for the pumping system, a water pump, and a storage tank.

Furthermore, Chief Awolesi highlighted an urgent need for solar streetlights along Ireshe Road leading to Bab Sheriff Junction, citing security concerns related to potential criminal activities. Princess Aderemi Ogede, a resident of Otambala, reported that a substantial number of their solar streetlights are non-operational. Specifically, one streetlight has suffered damage, and another has completely fallen, with its pole remaining intact at Ajenishe Compound on Otambala Street. It has been alleged that a member of the iCare Foundation removed the head of the fallen streetlight, presenting identification during the incident.

Mr. Kazeem Ekundayo added to the discussion by emphasising the community's primary need for additional borehole water systems to complement the provision made by Honourable Dr. Agbaje. Residents expressed their sincere gratitude to His Excellency Governor Babajide Olusola Aduragbemi Sanwo-Olu and Honourable Dr. Agbaje for their commitment to inclusive governance.

In Aga Tuntun 2, where the second transformer was installed, LaRoyal Publisher interviewed Mr. Hamzat Abayomi, Secretary to the CDA Chairman. He conveyed appreciation on behalf of the residents, commending Governor Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing contributions and expressing special thanks to Honourable Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje for his dedication to grassroots communities and to ensuring that the rural residents of Aga, Ikorodu, Lagos State, receive appropriate support.

Mr. Abayomi reported that the community had experienced a power outage for one year and eight months before the intervention of Honourable Dr. Agbaje, who was referred to as "our saviour in this community." The installation of the new transformer has been met with joy, as it will serve five streets in Aga Tuntun 2: Taliatu Lawal Street, Jokogbola Street, Femi Shobowale Street, Adeigbe Street, Oladegbe Carena Street, and Adedayo Tomos Street.

Regarding maintenance responsibilities, Mr. Abayomi emphasised that it is the duty of Ikeja Electricity to manage the transformer, recalling the malfunction of the previous 350 kVA transformer that exploded one year and eight months ago. Prince Olutusin Abidin, Assistant Secretary to the CDA Chairman, urged residents to take ownership of the transformer by preventing tampering and maintaining the surrounding environment.

Moreover, he called for government assistance in addressing infrastructure needs, including road construction and the installation of solar street lights. The community remains appreciative of Honourable Dr. Agbaje for his support and encourages the residents of Ikorodu to actively participate in the upcoming 2027 general elections by voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
