Rent-seekers behind call for Emefiele’s resignation –CBN22nd September 2021

Research By Araba, Olawale Enifenilanfe As  monetary authorities battle to strengthen the rapidly sliding Naira, Spokesman of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, has faulted claims from certain quarters for the resignation of the Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, over exchange rate matters.  Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Monday evening, Nwanisobi alleged that those behind such calls were only pursuing their selfish agenda, fueled by those who had long benefitted from rent-seeking practices in the parallel forex market, which he refused to recognise as a significant segment of the country’s forex market. According to him, the CBN would not be distracted in its mandate by yielding to the selfish tendencies of few to the detriment of the majority. In Show of Strength, Nigeria Raises $4bn through Eurobonds

Research By Araba, Olawale Enifenilanfe Nigeria has raised $4 billion through Eurobonds, which was a reflection of investors’ confidence in the economy. The amount was raised after an intensive two days of virtual meetings with investors across the globe. In a statement issued last night, the Debt Management Office (DMO) explained that the Order Book peaked at $12.2 billion, which enabled the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to raise $1 billion more than the $3 billion it initially announced. It said: “This exceptional performance has been described as, “one of the biggest financial trades to come out of Africa in 2021” and “an excellent outcome”. According to the DMO, bids for the Eurobonds were received from investors in Europe and America, as well as Asia. There was also good participation by local investors. Reps reject customs’ N1.3trn revenue projection for 2022

ABUJA- Citing the devaluation of naira as a crucial factor, the House of Reps Committee on finance rejected the N1.33 trillion revenue projected by the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) for the 2022 financial year. According to the Lawmakers, the projection is inadequate especially considering the devaluation of the country’s currency. James Faleke, chairman of the committee, declared that the committee will not be accepting the N1.33 trillion revenue projected by the NCS. “For us as a committee on finance, we will not accept the N1.3 trillion. Lagos Seaports To Receive 23 Ships Laden With Petroleum Products, Others

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said 23 ships have arrived at the two major seaports in Lagos, Apapa and Tin-Can Island Port Complex to discharge bulk wheat, general cargo, container, bulk gypsum, butane gas, bulk fertiliser and fuel. Items discharged also include soya bean, automobile gasoline and jet fuel. The NPA in its weekly shipping position released on Monday said it was also expecting 20 others laden with petroleum products, food items and other goods from August 23 to September 4. The authority said the ships were expected at the Lagos ports complex. It indicated that the ships contained general cargo, bulk malt, bulk sugar, container, bulk gypsum, bulk soya bean, bulk wheat, bulk coal and frozen fish. “Meanwhile, seven more ships are waiting to berth with general cargo, base oil and petrol,” it stated
