The International Federation Of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Ikorodu Chapter in synergy with Lagos state Domestic And Sexual Violence Agency, buttressed by  Lagos state Waterways Authority (LASWA) held a community sensitization / Town Hall Meeting with The Royal Community leaders; Secondary school Students from “PowerPoint College“, Okeletu, Ijede LCDA, Ikorodu, and Lagos state Youth, Ikorodu Chapter for “Protection and Awareness Against Women And Girls” In Lagos state.

FIDA is focusing on the global promotion of Women and girls' rights, while the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) is an organization under the Lagos State Government, committed to ensuring the total eradication of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the State. Its mission is to provide sensitive services to victims of domestic and sexual violence while promoting healthy relationships as we strive to enhance their coordinated community response to domestic and sexual violence in Lagos State and indeed in Nigeria.

According to the ”Lagos State Protection Against Domestic Violence Law (PADVL)” passed in 2007. The PADVL expressly states that no person shall commit an act of domestic violence against another person. Domestic violence is also known as domestic abuse. Domestic Violence is a crime, and Rape is a crime. Says The Speaker of the day, Mrs. Feyikemi Idowu Fabiyi, The Program Officer at The Youth Alive Foundation, Lagos Office.

She further said, that most victims of domestic and sexual violence in Nigeria don't know their Fundamental Human rights, and they don't want to care to know; and that is the more reason why we’ve got to spread the goodwill of awareness of their right and the steps to take when such aforementioned cases occur.
