Exclusive: ​Ikorodu Division People’s Forum Agitates For More Commissioners From Governor Sanwo-Olu.

Yesterday, Thursday, August 3rd, 2023: The Ikorodu Division People’s Forum (IDPF) under the leadership of the former Lagos State Clerk Of The House of Assembly, Otunba Fuwagboye Of Ikorodu, Hon. Ganiu Abiru;  Ex-Commissioner for Information, Culture & Sports in Lagos State, Agba Akin of Ikorodu Kingdom, Sir (Otunba) Ayodele Elesho (JP), and IDPF Secretary, S. O. K. Shillings Esq had an Ikorodu Indigenous meeting with the Indigenes of Ikorodu to deliberate on what to do, to peacefully resolve the issues affecting Ikorodu division in the Lagos State Executive arm in other to gain more Commissioners in addition to Ruth Abisola Olusanya of the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture from His Excellency Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu.

This meeting was held in Regal Hall, Oluodo, Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria on the theme; The Political Marginalisation: Way Forward.

Ikorodu division deserved more than One (1) Commissioner, One is not acceptable to us, we reject the nominee. it is a big disgrace for not compensating us. We are not going to be violent, but we have to be strategic in our dealing, and approach doing our agitation. Collectively we can move our mountain because more elections are still coming, said Otunba Ganiu Abiru during his public address.

Expansion of more local government projects was rejected by Late Oba Afolabi Salawudeen Oyefusi, which is what is still putting the Ikorodu division into the mess we facing today. Back then when I was in service, Lagos Island and Ikorodu are highly regarded in Lagos State Executive arm of decision-making. IKORODU leaders and political leaders resist being factual because of their selfish interests, said; Agba-Akin of Ikorodu Kingdom.

Says, the highest vote in the recent 2023 election, we have it. President Tinubu sets are priorities right, that is why He was able to say; Emilokan! Where is equity in this regard; why will someone share something of five (5) divisions that make Lagos State within fewer Lagosians and short-change Ikorodu division? 

During my service as a civil servant of Lagos State, Ikorodu people were maltreated because of our lack of unity. Lagos State Secretariat is full of cultists; we can not remain selfish, we just have to contribute our quota. Oriwu club shouldn’t be for elders alone, more young ones also need to be encouraged, said;  Lagos State retiree, Mrs. Basira Akinsanya.

No one is against us if not Ikorodu Indigene; During TOS Benson's group of associates agitating for Ikorodu for Governor; all indigene people of Ikorodu agreed with him (of his blessed memory), but to their greatest surprise, in the tall hall meeting where we have the present of the then Governor of Lagos State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Hon. Kaoli Olusanya betrayed Ikorodu by rising former Governor Raji Fashola’s hand up as to be the next Governor of Lagos State, after we’ve all agreed to nominate someone as the next governor from Ikorodu.

How many of us know her son who is the present Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, how many people recognise her? We are not fighting here, but, if they can not favour the needful of the Ikorodu division they should let it be, said; Legal Practitioner Shakiru Omolaja.

He further said to ask, if all Ikorodu divisional Obas are in a unifying form of state of mind; Are they in love with themselves? we are facing all this, because of their lack of unity and love.

He proceeded by commending the Ikorodu Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson (HRM) For the effectiveness of his position. He said, Jimi is not here, but God is here; to be candid, he is a productive Son of Ikorodu. Take a look at what he has done and what is still projecting to do for Ikorodu; the infrastructural development prestige he had laid in Agbele, Erunwen, and so on, I never thought that could be achievable till I die, but it was achievable, that is a bonafide example of what we are talking about.

He thereby concluded by proffering his opinion to invite all the attention of the Federal Senator for Lagos East Senatorial district, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru; Federal Reps. Babajimi Benson (HRM); State Legislators for Ikorodu constituencies One (1) and Two (2), Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo (OGA) and Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA) to hear their opinions concerning what we can do to resolve the issues affecting our heritage. Don’t let’s just verbally approach these, let’s make use of Visual, Print, and Social media to broadcast their doings and ineffective contributions to their origin, said; the legal practitioner Shakiru Omolaja.
