​LG Chairman: Adesina Urges Marketeers To Provide New Iya-Oloja General Before Thursday

The Ikorodu divisional marketeers had an interactive meeting with Ikorodu local government administrative cabinet on Monday, November 13th, 2023 at Ikorodu local government secretariate hall to prompt resolution for peaceful coexistence between the marketeers, local Government Executive Chairman, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Ayangbure of Ikorodu Kingdom.

This meeting involved the presence of some All Progressives Congress (APC) political leaders, local government legislative leader of the house, Hon. Ajayi Adebowale; secretary to the local government, Hon. Lateef Afinni; Chief of Staff, Comrade Tosin Mabunmi and so on, all under the administrative governance of Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina. 

During a public address by Hon. Lateef Afinni, said; to discuss the following:

1. What are the market challenges

1. What to work on as a government body 

1. And what is disturbing the local government and marketeers in achieving their goals?

All of these will be discussed with the Executive Chairman for him to take proper monitoring. He thereby clarified to the marketeers, that the institution that assigned local government “Chairman” is the owner of the market according to the constitution. “Executive Chairman is the owner of the market”. Anything market affairs are under local government. Secretary to Ikorodu local government sensitized the marketeers for proper understanding in other to attain peaceful coexistence within the counterparts. 

He further emphasised that he does not mean that the Executive Chairman is the paramount owner of the market, Ikorodu local government does according to the constitutional law guide the nation. “We do not do our things separately”, it will be done the way it ought to be so that the market can function the way it ought to be; we are not here to fight. We appreciate your coming, said; Hon. Lateef Afinni.

Ikorodu LG Supervisor for Special Duty, Alhaji Imam Misbau Ola Rotinwa in his public address, said; that if not for the wisdom and knowledge appliances, they wouldn't have gotten to the present stage they found themselves; The most difficult place to control on earth is the heritage, in others where someone is been given birth in, it will be very difficult to step unconsciously. That is why the Executive Chairman has organised this meeting for resolution. 

He thereby bled to the marketeers with the name of God for success in all that the Executive Chairman has to say. 

Alhaji said this according to his initial Quran prayer quote; God is the only one who produces death from lifely ones, and as well generate the life existence from the death. He is the only one who chose the head and also withdrew for replacement. At times God will remove some heads to be replaced by a person in line, the late Ikorodu divisional Iya-Oloja general, Alhaja Taofikat Allinson has done good work, and so importantly is needed to portray the laid down work in other not to spoil her legacy.

Leader of Ikorodu legislative chamber, Hon. Ajayi Adebowale appreciated the Executive Chairman and the political leaders for organising this meeting with the marketeers, said the meeting was called for the progressives of the market not to create any havoc within the marketers, and also appreciated the marketeers for their enthusiasm in the market.

As an Ikorodu local government lawmaker, we operate just like the way the federal government, and state government legislate, says they are just the grassroots legislators that work with the Executive Chairman in other to move Ikorodu forward to the greater level. 

Said, according to the federal government law that guides in establishing markets in any environment, the law says it is the local government that has the right to establish, manage, and supervise all markets in their jurisdictional domain. Even if it is a private market, it is important to firstly request local government permission before proceeding. So, to elect Iya-Oloja in the market it is in the hands of the local government because if anything should happen in the market the local government Chairman will be held responsible for it by the federal government, and state government.

There is no way a market will be established without having someone to spearhead it in other to organise and work with the local government, and that is the reason why marketers are been invited here, the Leader of the Ikorodu legislative chamber said during his public address.

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina during his public address with the marketeers, said; we are starting from the level we left their discussion with the marketers. Says, there are three tiers of government at which the government functions: 

1. Local Government 
2. State Government 
3. Federal Government 

And there is law, that is the constitution. “I as the Chairman of Ikorodu local government, have been elected here to defend and guide the constitution therein” despite not knowing how it was been written. The Lagos State House of Assembly lawmakers also did something that is called an administrative guideline, which is to guide the local governments on how to operate governance, as well as what is under the local government/local council development area, State, and Federal Government. 

Says, first of all, there isn't a fight between him and Kabiyesi, He is our Royal Father, and we do not have any issue at all, but whatever has been addressed as the rule of law has to be monitored in other to do it right and the way it ought to be done. That is not a nevermind act or disobedience as some people used to say. Whatever the rules guided me to do, “I have to do it as a Chairman that was been voted for and elected. And if I then do the needful, there is no discussion in it, and there is no issue in it”.

Says, “I am not scared, but I only have respect for those who are ahead of me, in as much as he is following the constitution that guides him as a Chairman”, anyone can record.

He further said, that when he was not around, he got information that the chiefs went to buglered the council office at Sabo market, which is not reasonable. But like have said earlier; “I do not get scared, is just that I only have respect for those who are ahead of me”, the person the chief when to open the market for, we called for this meeting, and she is not here, neither did she sent a representative. Chairman says, the office she is therein is not for the chiefs, inform her exactly the way “I said it that the office belongs to the council and I am coming there soon”, said the Chairman. 

Says, that all they are doing is temporarily for a specific period, there is nothing that goes on forever; he is a Chairman, and he was aware since the day he became the Chairman that he would vacate the position one day. And if anyone should have it in mind that he will soon vacate the position, “I still have two years to spend”.

That two years can do so many things. All the guidance highlighted for her, she refused them. Since she has been there for a while no revenue has come to the local government, and she collected illegal money from the people in the sabo market. In regards to the IkoroduOga celebration, the late Alhaja Taofikat Allinson used to collect five-five hundred nairas (N500) from the traders to do what needed to be done, she got there and increase it, let her know that there was government. Government has the say over there, inform her, and “I will take appropriate action on sabo market, the Executive Chairman said.

The guideline on choosing the market chieftain, and Iya-Oja is very clear on the guideline that they have them regarding the constitution. “If we said, our Royal Father has done something, does not mean she should be doing whatever she likes”. There are rules and regulations; Chairman said.

As the Chairman, I am not forcing the marketeers to come and anchor their meeting in the local government, despite it being true to be having their meeting here. “I stretched my hand of love when late Alhaja Taofikat Allinson was alive”, they have a series of meetings every month. But, the marketeers left because of what a person he knows but will not mention her name, that they used a knife to cut meat for them on their meal. But, the way you want it is the way “I will handle it with you”. If it were done according to the rule of law, the Chairman would have turned into a bad person in the town, but as a politician; the way you do it, is the way “I will replicate with you”, there are series of market chieftain that has a crown with know the office, that bears her Iya-Oloja in her shop and space; the office at the sabo market is an office that belongs to Iya-Oja general.

He therefore mandated the marketeers to provide the new Iya-Oloja general within their midst and bring her to him before Thursday, November 16th, 2023 and thereby proceeded to the Palace for traditional and Royal blessings, said the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina.

Baba Oloja general of the Ikorodu division, Alhaji Jayesimi Wasiu Olamilekan, said in an interview with him, that the executive Chairman is the Government, while Kabiyesi is the owner of the town; there is nothing the government and the Oba can not do. The discussion of decision-making is within both of them in terms of providing new Iya-Oloja general within the marketeers before Thursday, whatever their conclusion, is comfortable by the marketers as they will never do theirs separately.

Says, a profitable and excelling market requests love in relationships. He thereby advised marketers not to in hatred within one another, but to live in love for the sustainability and profitability of the market, said Baba Oloja general, Ikorodu division.

In an interview with CEO Busiq Fabrics, said; the government and traditional paramount ruler’s discussion is final, and her message for the marketeers is to live in love and unity for sustainable profitable businesses.
