​Unusual Act: Greater Lagos Fiesta Begins Without Ikorodu Rural Obas Notification.

2023 Greater Lagos Fiesta began the annual entertainment event without the notifications of Obas and Stakeholders in Ikorodu Division which the indigenous and residents alike observed to be an improper way of coordination.


Greater Lagos Fiesta is under the Ministry of Art and Culture which ought to cultivate the heritage habit in regards to the rural Obas and stakeholders across the State Division.


Hon. Commissioner of Ministry of Art and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson –Awoyinka under the Lagos State Government has begun Greater Lagos Fiesta across the State divisions, which are ‘’Ikorodu, Ikeja, Lagos Island, Badagry, and Ibeju-Lekki’’ (IBILE), anchored by the Ministry Of Art and Culture State officials.


This event was established under the past administrative Governance of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode before the emergence of His Excellency Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu. This year 2023 Greater Lagos Fiesta started without awareness and notification of the rural Obas slash Stakeholders in Ikorodu Division.


This year 2023 Greater Lagos Fiesta for the Ikorodu Division is organised to function for three days at Ikorodu Ultra-Modern Town Hall, Olubi Street, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, beginning on Friday, December 29th, 2023 through January 1st, 2023 to Unite and entertain the people of Lagos for peaceful coexistence.


Ikorodu Division consists of One (1) Local Government (LG), and Five LCDAs which are as follows:-


1. Ikorodu Central LG.

2. Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA.

3. Ikorodu North LCDA.

4. Ikorodu West LCDA.

5. Ijede LCDA, and

6. Imota LCDA.


Greater Lagos Fiesta before now was established to function for seven (7) days, which has been reduced to three (3) days of entertainment without notification across Lagos State division ‘’IBILE’’, the people of Ikorodu thereby clamoured for the active involvement of the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Art and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson –Awoyinka as an origin identity to work on the feedback for proper coordination.


According to fact findings from the people of Ikorodu who had witnessed the Greater Lagos Fiesta in the past years, ‘’We are used to Royal blessings from the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, His Royal Majesty Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi’’, alongside the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Semiudeen Aremu Orimadegun, and other Royal Majesties across Ikorodu Division on every December 31st night through January 1st of New Year.


In an information act with the convener of 2023 Greater Lagos fiesta, Ikorodu, Executive Chairman, Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA, Builder Sesan Daini said; ‘’it is never too late, the notion might still be corrected’’ in regards to formal notification to the Royal Majesties across Ikorodu division, ‘’I have just addressed that with the Personal Assistance to His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi; Prince Ademola Adeyeri. This was discussed a couple of days ago concerning protocols.


A few dignitaries in attendance are Executive Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, Sulaimon Olarewaju Kazeem; Executive Chairman, Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA, Builder Sesan Daini; and Ikorodu West Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaja Salau Rukayat Ibunkun (Jibike); despite maximum security are on ground to protect lives and properties for peaceful coexistence. 


Available security agencies are as follows:- “Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch (LSNW), Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Vigilante, Ikorodu Division Peaceful Initiative and so on”.


‘’If you see something, Say something’’, said; the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSC), Ikorodu Divisional Commander, Commander Ibrahim Sanni.


The event so far has been fun and entertaining, A series of Nigeria Hip-Hop singers, and upcoming singers have been partaking, meanwhile, Ikorodu Division people hope to receive Royal blessings as usual. “We hope to see more dignitaries turnout today for the celebration of the end of 2023 and welcome the 2024 new year in advance.
