On 7th March, I led members of my Committee on an oversight exercise to the Ministry of Defence

We were received by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohamed Badaru; Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Kana and all Directors of the Ministry.

The meeting provided an opportunity for robust interaction between members of my Committee and the ministry officials.

Members of the Committee were further enlightened about the core mandate of the ministry, its organizational structure, relationship with the Armed Forces of Nigeria and modus operandi.

They also asked questions bothering on military recruitment exercises, theatre operations across the country, innovative technology in military hardware manufacture, gender inclusion in military recruitment, etc.

In my speech, I took time to inform the minister and his team about efforts of the committee to support the activities of the Armed Forces which includes several legislations, passage of and assent to the DICON Act as well as concerted legislative actions on numerous motions referred to the committee.

I seized the opportunity to reassure the minister and indeed, Nigerians of the House of Representatives commitment to securing lives and property of all Nigerians in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.
