Stop Killing Security Personnel — Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi Launches Campaign

By Araba, Olawale Enifenilanfe:

Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi has issued a passionate plea to all patriotic citizens of Nigeria to unite against the senseless killing of security operatives.

“About 200 military personnel, 116 police officers, and 106 vigilantes were reported to have been killed in 2023. Other security agencies like the Nigerian Immigration Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Customs Service also suffered a few casualties.”

Vis-a-vis this, a fervent call to action has been made by Ambassador Oluwapelumi, who emphasized that no one has the right to unlawfully take the life of another, especially those who serve to protect the nation. Highlighting the importance of respecting the privilege and authority vested in security personnel while in uniform, She further stressed the need for widespread education on this matter.

The security operators encompass various agencies, including the police force, Army, Air Force, LASTMA, road safety officials, corporate and private security officers, and many more.

“It's time to focus on nation-building and reject the destructive path of violence," asserted Ambassador Oluwapelumi. "We cannot expect progress when we perpetrate violence against ourselvesNigeria's future depends on our collective commitment to unity and peace,” she said.

To address this pressing issue, Ambassador Oluwayomi has launched the "Societal Concerns Endurance Walk" campaign aimed at raising awareness and rallying support to end the illegal killing of security personnel.

The theme of the campaign, "Protect Our Protectors, Preserving Our Unity," underscores the imperative of safeguarding those who risk their lives to ensure the safety and security of the nation. The campaign will span the metropolitan city of Lagos State, with the scheduled events taking place from April 20 to April 27, 2024.

Stakeholders, patriotic citizens, and concerned individuals are urged to join the movement and participate in the upcoming endurance walk. Together, let us stand united in defence of our protectors and uphold the values of peace, unity, and respect for human life. Stay tuned for further updates as we embark on this critical journey towards a safer and more harmonious Nigeria.
