Ikorodu Sub-Region Masterplan: Dr. Oluyinka A. Olumide Meet With The Ikorodu Stakeholders

Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development under the administration of Honorable Commissioner (Dr.) Oluyinya A. Olumide has met with the Ikorodu divisional stakeholders to discuss and review the “Ikorodu Sub-Region Masterplan” on what necessarily needs to be amended and will work on to be able to meet up with the modern design standard for urban and rural development style of living.
This meeting was held at the Ikorodu ultra-modern town hall on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024 with the presence of All Ikorodu divisional Political leaders, Obas, High Chiefs, Chiefs, CDA's Chairmen, indigenes and non-indigenes, landlords and landowners are there to reveal the Ikorodu division urban-rural developments’ interest for proper changes from the past Lagos state government analyses of progress and development to suit the modern style standard of development.
Dr. Oluyinka A. Olumide, Honourable Commissioner, Physical Planning & Urban Development, Lagos State in his address, expressed that the Lagos state vision for Ikorodu Sub-Region is to develop a sustainable and inclusive masterplan that will enhance the potential of Ikorodu Sub-Region by utilizing the undeveloped greenfield, waterways, and lagoon-front potentials to drive economic growth, improve the quality of life, and make the sub-region a viable investment destination in Lagos State for the next twenty (20) years.
Says, “Our stakeholders' meeting today is all about presenting a decent environment to the people of Ikorodu”.
“Ikorodu before now was known as a resettlement area in Lagos”. But now, it has to be planned in line with the new Lagos State modern design to take care of the various land uses, and the division of all the lands, so that areas that are marked for residential can be recognized for residential, areas that will have drainage can be identified, areas for recreation will as well be known and areas for agriculture are also recognized so that people can build and live as planned in accordant with the Lagos State Masterplan.
Says, “To get a housing approval from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, it will require a certified Building Engineer slash constructors’ overview written document to attests about the house quality of materials usage values to assure the government that the house built has met with the new masterplan of Lagos and is worth given an approval”.
He added, that there won’t be difficult problems in terms of implementation of newly developed jurisdictions within the division, because the plans were in recognition of the existing settlement which will now fall within the period of Master Plan (MS) for people who have built without approval to comfortably do the regulating by way of getting their billing plan, and those that to start new development now, can be guided by the new plan.
“It's only a win-win situation for the people and the government”, he said.
He thereby urged the people of the Ikorodu division to synergize with the State government in regards in other to make it a joint force to reckon with.
“The plan is not only favoring the side of the government but both citizens and the government, because if there are no people, there will be no government, If there is no government, there will not be the need for plans”.
By cultivating this habit of the inclusive style of governance, “Citizens and visitors/residents alike can get home and sleep peacefully without a factory slash religious making noise beside their houses, those are the problems within the plan which the Lagos state masterplan will help resolved”, said Hon. Commissioner Oluyinka Olumide.
Finally, he thereby urged the landlords to get their building plans approved. And to the landowners, they should try and abide by the plans and should not go outside of the use that the lands are made for,
In an interview with Hon. Dr. Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje, The Special Adviser to Mr. Governor, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu on Rural Development, emphasized a recent interview with him, which revealed his active defendant of Ikorodu division at the Executive House of decision-making, this serves as “There is an existing synergy between the Ministry of Physical Planning and the Ministry of Rural Development” which prompted him to involved in the land and house development of the Ikorodu Sub-Region Masterplan State approval to encourage the people of Ikorodu division at-large to comply with the Government process guides of approval.
Says, the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and Ministry of Rural Development are not restricting anyone from coming to visit for their lands and houses documentation approval.
“It is not until you know anyone in the ministry, people can have access to come for their needful”. “Get your rightful land and houses document to be sure of being the rightful owner”.
“We have visited some part of Lagos State division (IBILE) on this”, Greater Lagos we envisage; “Igbega Ipinle-Eko, Ajumose O”, he said.
