The Ambassadors of Christ Society Celebrate Silver Jubilee With Awards Night.

The post-service reception of the “Ambassadors of Christ Society” at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Ikorodu Diocese, Ikorodu Circuit, Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedral featured the presentation of awards to dedicated and supportive members, including past and present presidents, on Sunday, October 13th, 2024.

The event, held at the Oluwatoyin Lions Activities Centre, Owode Ibeshe Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria, aimed to acknowledge the recipients for their unwavering commitment and contribution since the society’s establishment in 1999 by the pioneering individual, Sir (Otunba) Ambassador Ayodele Oluwole Elesho, KJW, former President from 1999-2009.

The society’s inception stemmed from a divine calling to Ambassador Ayodele Oluwole Elesho in May 1999, prompting the selection of exemplary individuals in the Church for the propagation of the teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Subsequently, he was inaugurated as the society’s first President by the twelve founding members, alongside an inaugural Secretary, Ambassador Femi Ogunmosule, who served from 1999-2009.

The Society was established on October 3rd, 1999, with the slogan “Now then, We Are Ambassadors of Christ,” derived from the biblical scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:20, the society has since dedicated itself to its Christ-centered mission within the Methodist Church Nigeria, Ikorodu Diocese, Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedral.

In his opening address, President of the Ambassadors of Christ Society, Amb. Omotayo Jokomba expressed his gratification towards the esteemed society, founded twenty-five years ago as a platform centred on Christ for men, aimed at fostering harmonious relationships within the Methodist Church Nigeria, Ikorodu Diocese, Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedral.

Thank God for the great pleasure of standing before the members to address and elaborate on the wisdom behind the formation of the society (The Ambassadors of Christ Society). Give thanks to the Almighty God for the gift of life and sound health for all the members to witness this day, despite all the trials, travails, and triumphs. “God has been most gracious and faithful”, he testified.

The vision of the society is focused on its mission of using the “3Ts formula”, which means “Time, Talent and Treasure“.

Acknowledged and appreciated the efforts and support of all well-meaning Nigerians, home and in the diaspora who had contributed to the success story i.e His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusela 3 of the Ikate Kingdom and Olori Sekinat Aramide, Queen of Ikate Kingdom for their moral and financial support through the years.

Also, recognized the foundation pillars of support, which has helped in no small measure to nurture and nourish the society from infancy to maturity. Appreciate the pioneering role of their patron, the Late Sir B. O. Benson, SAN, KJW and Late Rt. Rev. Dr. Samuel Kolawole Sholanke provided the society with invaluable advice and morals including financial support to start remarkably from the beginning. “Observed a minute silent for the past members” and congratulated the awardees.

In an opening remark by the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Lamidi ‘Dele Tajudeen congratulated the President, Amb. Omotayo Jokomba, members and by extension recognized the wives of the Executive Committees for their notable contributions within the Church and the broader community and expressed it great pleasure to celebrate with the renowned society. Marking the silver jubilee of the establishment, which was founded Twenty-Five (25) years ago on Sunday, October 3rd, 1999 as a Christ-oriented forum for men with the main objective of fostering brotherly and friendly relationships and association among the Christian brothers of Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedra, Ita-Elewa, Ikorodu.

It is pertinent to note that the society started with Twelve (12) members in 1999, and has grown in leaps and bounds over the past Twenty-Five (25) years despite the loss of some members; “To God be the glory”- Celebrating the 25 years of the journey is worth thanksgiving, he said.

The Royal Awards per Excellent was presented by Amb. Omotayo Jokomba to The General Secretary, Amb. Kehinde Anifowose and Social Secretary of “The Ambassadors of Christ Society”, Amb. Taiwo Anifowoseon behalf of His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi and Olori Sekinat Aramide, Queen of Ikate Kingdom.

Pillars and Achievers awards were presented to Late Sir Babatunde Olusola Benson, SAN, KJW (Patron); Late Rt. Rev. Dr S. Kolawola Sholanke (Patron) and Late Madam Emily Orenuga (Patroness).

Merit Awards were presented to Sir. Otunba Ayodele Elesho, KJW. (Founding President, 1999-2009); Sir Dr Olalekan O. Shobowale KJW (Past President, 2010-2014); Mr. Babafolarinwa Adesegun Osude (Past President, 2015-2018); Mr. Austen Taiwo Oduloye (Past President, 2019-2023); Mr. Christian Adebayo Sholarin (Past Treasurer); Sir Cheif Adesina Ayo Shode, KJW (Special Dedicated Member) and Mr. Olufemi Ogunmosunle (Secretary, 1999-2009).

The purpose of the gathering was to celebrate the landmark achievement and to solicit financial assistance from the esteemed guests by way of donations towards the society’s projects in continuation of the vision of the association.
