By Araba, Olawale Enifenilanfe:
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government (LG), Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina has facilitated the Lagos Bureau of Statistics (LBS) under Honourable Commissioner, Mr. Mosopefolu George, Lagos State Ministry of Economic, Planning and Budget to sensitise the LG and LCDAs official Staffs across Ikorodu Division on how to make proactively use of Eko360-App for Data Collection and Data Validation yesterday, on Thursday, October 31st, 2024 at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariate with the presence of the Executive Chairman, the Council Managers and their Secretaries to the Local Government and LCDAs (SLGs).
This programme is organised to sensitise the heads of departments at the Local Government and Local Council Development Area for easy transmission of their office’s socio-economic data to the Lagos Bureau of Statistics via the Eko360 app.
In attendance were Ikorodu LG and LCDAs Chairmen, ably rpresented by Hon. Sunday Benson; Ikorodu local government Council Manager, Mr. Shipe Shanu; Ikorodu-west LCDA Council Manager, Mr. Adeola Tobun; Secretary to Ikorodu Local Government (SLG), Hon. Lateef Affini; Secretary to the Ikorodu-west LCDA (SLG), Hon. Anifowose Olufemi; Igbogbo/Baiyeku Council Manager, Mr Hakeem Adegbenro Adesanya and others.
In a presentation by Mr. Olusanya Olaoluwa, a Senior Statistician, he stated that the Eko360 project was introduced to digitize the process of the Lagos Bureau of Statistics (LBS). Mentioned some of the project’s outcomes: i.e. the data collection app (Eko360), hosted on both the Play Store and App Store, and the Lagos Bureau of Statistics Open Data portal. Researchers, executives, and the populace can visit this portal to view analytics about Lagos State, gaining insights and helping to make data-driven decisions.
He reiterated that the Eko360 data collection app has two layers: the Data Collector, comprising data officers at the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) who upload socio-economic data to the platform, and the Data Validator, a senior officer who approves or rejects data uploaded by the data collector. He clearly specified the difference between data validation and data collection. The Lagos State Open Data, Eko360, is a digitized program organized to strengthen the Local Governments and LCDAs ministries across the state. This program facilitates easy access to data rendition through the Eko360 data app of the Lagos Bureau of Statistics (LBS).
Furthermore, the Lagos Bureau of Statistics Open Data portal gives Lagosians and everyone access to Lagos State data across the health, education, and economic affairs for project management reports, to improve accountability and transparency of projects.
The validation system ensures the inputs adhere to the set rules, such as the type, uniqueness, format, or consistency of the data before it can be received and accessible in the Lagos Bureau of Statistics Open Data Portal.
“eko360.ng is an open website portal while the administrator.eko360.ng is for data validation only which is a restricted section for the use of LGs and LCDAs across the State ministries”, he clarified.
The Head of Department (HOD) and the Director of Budget and Planning of Ikorodu Local Government, Mrs. Olunuga Beatrice appreciated the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina for facilitating this programme to Ikorodu LG for the local government and LCDAs officials to benefit from. Also in her vote of thanks, appreciated the Lagos State Government for this laudable initiative.
Refreshment after that.
