IKORODU BETRAYED: Kìnìún Ikòròdú Slams Local Political Elders Over Sabotaged Governorship Bid
Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

The political landscape of the Ikorodu Division has been thrown into turmoil following the release of a scathing open letter accusing its political elders and representatives of deliberate sabotage.
In a fiercely worded document released today, prominent community figure Princess (Mrs.) Aderoju Ladega-Akinjobi, widely known as Kìnìún Ikòròdú (The Lioness of Ikorodu), alleged that the division’s historic opportunity to produce the next Governor of Lagos State is being actively dismantled from the inside.
For decades, the Ikorodu Division has been a loyal political powerhouse in Lagos State, consistently delivering votes and support.
However, according to Princess Ladega-Akinjobi, that loyalty has historically gone unrewarded regarding the state’s highest seat of leadership.
Now, with the prospect of an Ikorodu governorship transitioning from "fantasy" to a "tangible prospect," the division is reportedly facing its greatest threat—not from political opponents, but from its own leaders.
"Let it be said without caution, without diplomacy, and without any attempt to soften the truth: Ikorodu has been betrayed," the letter reads. "Not by outsiders. Not by political opponents. But by those who sit at the table and claim to speak for us."
The open letter claims that during recent critical, high-level consultations, Ikorodu's political elders were given a rare privilege to project the division’s interests.
Instead of presenting a united front and backing the most credible and widely accepted candidate, these leaders allegedly opted for self-interest, suppressing the true will of the people.
The release pulls no punches in questioning the motives of the political elite. It challenges the defense of "ongoing consultation," calling the maneuver a clear and deliberate attempt to weaken the division’s chances.
Princess Ladega-Akinjobi openly questioned whether the elders' actions were driven by a fear of being overshadowed, envy over growing political influence, or a "willingness to mortgage the future of Ikorodu for personal comfort within existing power structures."
The letter warns that political opportunities of this magnitude are fleeting. Mishandling this moment has allegedly exposed Ikorodu as a "house divided against itself," diluting a compelling case for the governorship into a display of disarray.
"And if - when - the opportunity slips away, let the truth be told: Ikorodu did not lose it. It was taken from Ikorodu by Ikorodu," Ladega-Akinjobi asserted.
The letter concludes with a stern warning to the leaders involved, reminding them that the silence and calm of the electorate should not be misconstrued as ignorance or acceptance.
Declaring that "leadership is not about occupying space—it is about defending interest," the statement serves as a rallying cry to the wider Ikorodu division across all wards, age groups, and political lines.
The Kìnìún Ikòròdú urged citizens to stop entrusting their collective aspirations to individuals who prioritize personal gain over communal advancement.
While the letter notes that a "narrow, fragile opportunity" remains to correct the narrative and present a united front, it makes one thing abundantly clear: the political consciousness of Ikorodu has been awakened, and any perceived betrayal at this defining moment will shape political futures for years to come.
As consultations and backroom negotiations continue across Lagos State, all eyes are now on Ikorodu's political elders to see if they will reverse course—or cement the division that threatens their historic bid for Ikorodu for governor's seat.
