Senate urges Customs Service, NSA to lift petrol supply restriction to border towns

  The Senate on Tuesday urged the   Nigeria Customs Service   and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to urgently lift the  restriction on supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) within 20 kilometers radius of communities bordering other countries around the country.  He noted that the smuggling of the product to the border communities which was is later transferred to neighbouring countries contributed to the fuel subsidy crisis that the nation was grappling with for a very long. He noted that the restriction placed on the supply of the product to the border communities as a result of smuggling of the product  across the border to the neighbouring countries is no longer justified considering that fuel subsidy has been removed. According  to him, the continued restriction is causing double jeopardy to the communities with no supplies of the product while their businesses are collapsing due to high price of the product that they have to travel far to procure for domestic and business purpo

Tinubu approves appointments of three DCGs, three ACGs for customs

President Bola Ahmad Tinubu   has approved the appointment of a management team for the Customs.  The approval followed the appointment of the Acting Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on June 19 and the retirement of some management members in the Service.  The new management team include Deputy Comptroller Generals (DCGs) and  Assistant Comptroller Generals (ACGs):  DCG FO Okun; DCG MBA Musa; DCG A Hamisu; ACG K Olumoh; ACG AB Mohammed; and ACG A Alajogun. According to the statement, while thanking the retired members of the management for their meritorious service, the Acting Comptroller General of Customs, Adeniyi  congratulated the newly appointed Officers and charged them to redouble their efforts to ensure the Service achieves greater heights in its mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling and trade facilitation. ​ Today at the Federal Executive Council Chamber, the President and Commander-in-Chief, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu decorated the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs with their new ranks, marking the beginning of a new era in Nigeria's security history.  By this, the Service Chiefs have now been handed the full responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.  The House Committee on Defence urged the security chiefs to keep to their promises of prioritizing the welfare of armed forces personnel, prudent and accountable use of appropriated resources, strengthening civil-military relationships, adequate capacity development for the armed forces, enhanced collaboration with foreign military and all other plans itemized during their screening exercise in the House.  The Committee will continue to provide the legislative support required to make Nigeria peaceful for everyone while performing the necessary oversight of all agencies under our jurisdiction.
